Do you have all the essentials in your boat? 

Before you start the engines and go to the water, I want to share with you 6 essentials that you should take on board. We've created a checklist to help you prepare and keep yourself, your passengers, and your boat safe. 

1. Boat Registration and License: Laws may vary by state. Orient yourself appropriately and be sure to carry the required licenses and labels stuck in the appropriate areas. 
2. Safety Equipment: There is a minimum list provided by the US Coast Guard. Among the most important things are life jackets for each person on board, fire extinguisher, navigation lights, first aid kit and whistle. 
3. Equipment necessary for docking: At some point it will be time to dock the boat. Therefore, an anchor, fenders and dock lines are essential.  
4. VHF radio: Cell phones certainly don't work in some places. This is why we recommend having a VHF radio with which you can communicate in case of an emergency. 
5. Tool kit: A small toolbox that includes at least one pliers, adjustable wrench and screwdriver will help you solve any small problem that arises while in the water.  
6. GPS and depth finder: As part of the most important devices, we recommend having a GPS and a depth finder. GPS is crucial whether you're using it on rough tides or during night navigation. The depth finder can help prevent you from running aground as it measures the depth of the water under the boat.

Antes de que enciendas los motores y salgas a navegar, quiero compartir contigo 6 cosas esenciales que debes llevar a bordo. Hemos creado una lista para ayudarte a que te prepares y a que te mantengas tú, tus pasajeros y tu bote a salvo. 

1. Registración del bote y licencia: Las leyes pueden variar de acuerdo al estado. Orientate apropiadamente y asegúrate de llevar las licencias requeridas y las etiquetas pegadas en las áreas que correspondan. 
2. Equipo de seguridad: Hay una lista mínima que provee el US Coast Guard. Entre las cosas más importantes se encuentran: salvavidas para cada persona a bordo, extintor, luces de navegación, kit de primeros auxilios y silbato.  
3. Equipo necesario para el docking: En algún momento tocará atracar el bote. Por lo tanto, un ancla, defensas y líneas de atraque son esenciales. 
4. VHF radio: Ciertamente los teléfonos celulares no funcionan en algunos lugares. Es por esto que recomendamos tener un radio VHF con el cual te puedas comunicar en caso de una emergencia. 
5. Kit de herramientas: Una pequeña caja de herramientas que incluya al menos un alicate, llave ajustable y destornillador te ayudará a resolver algún pequeño percance que surja estando en el agua. 
6. GPS y depth finder: Como parte de los dispositivos más importantes recomendamos tener un GPS y un medidor de profundidad. El GPS es crucial ya sea que lo estés utilizando en mareas agitadas o durante la navegación nocturna. El medidor de profundidad puede te ayudará a evitar que encalles ya que mide la profundidad del agua debajo del bote.
